What is emetophobia?
Emetophobia is an intense fear of vomiting, or of seeing or hearing others vomit. Many people also fear nausea itself, or any situation where vomiting “might” happen. This often leads to:
-
Avoiding foods, places, or activities
-
Monitoring bodily sensations
-
Safety behaviours (checking, distracting, scanning)
-
Restricting travel, socialising, or eating out
-
It’s common to feel trapped by these routines. Therapy can help you gently undo these patterns and build confidence again.

Focused Therapy
Emetophobia is often misunderstood or treated as “just anxiety.” It requires a tailored, compassionate approach that respects how overwhelming this fear can feel. Frequently asked questions
“Will I have to vomit in therapy?”
No. Exposure therapy does *not* aim to make you vomit. Everything is gradual and starts with things that feel safe enough.
“How long does therapy take?”
Everyone is different, but many people see meaningful progress within a number of weeks or months. We’ll create a plan that suits your pace. Recovery from emet can take 1-2 years but after 16-20 sessions you'll usually have all the knowledge you need to keep progressing.
“Can I do sessions online?”
Yes. I offer online therapy via Zoom, which many people find reassuring and convenient for this issue.
"Does the camera have to be on?"
Yes. All online sessions are conducted with cameras and audio on for the full duration.
"Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions?"
No, therapy operates on a pay-as-you-go basis. Often we try to review every 6 sessions to ensure it is meeting your needs.
